On September 2, 1999 Lula Cafe opened in a small storefront on Kedzie Boulevard with a four burner home stove and a dented collection of thrifted pots and pans. Craft brews on tap, cocktails & American plates are the draw at this casual, locally owned hangout. In 1913, what was known as 40th Ave was renamed for Peter Crawford, an early area landowner. Later on, the street was renamed Pulaski Ave, which still remains today. Having grown up in the area, we chose the name Crawford's to connect with the Avondale neighborhood.
